Joss Whedon's favourite charity Equality Now, have posted on Whedonesque thanking Joss Whedon and his fans for all their support. Here's what they said:

On behlaf of Equality Now, I am writing to say a huge THANKS to all of you for supporting our work to end violence and discrimination against women around the world! Jesica and I had a great time at the Flanvention last weekend - your enthusiasm and generosity are deeply touching. As Equality Now is an organization that believes that anyone anywhere can do something to help, we are very aware of the power of individuals coming together to work for a common goal. Your power is staggering! We hope that some day the dream of equality will be as real for all of us as it is in Buffy and in Firefly, and all of you give us great hope that this day will come. Special thanks to the cast for all their generosity, and special thanks to Nathan and Joss for believing in our work and encouraging you to support it. There are many ways you can help in addition to giving us much needed funding - check out our website at www.equalitynow.org. Love to you all from Jessica and the rest of the staff at Equality Now.

8 December 2005: Buffy - Joss Whedon Letter from Complete DVD Set

Buffy

Those of you who are the proud owners of the Buffy Complete Series DVD Box set will also know the contents of this letter. But for those of you who aren't so lucky, here's Joss Whedon's letter to the fans:

Well, here you have it. All of it. Seven years of painstaking work, of pain and creation, of wit, confusion, strength, compromise and achievement... of me, dreaming of nightmares.

To say that Buffy has been the greatest, most difficult and rewarding experience of my career thus far would actually be to undersell its significance. It represents the best work (again, so far) of so many talented people I can't possible name them all here. David Greenwalt and Marti Noxon, who ran the show with me are more responsible for its shape and terrible beauty than I ever intend to give them credit for, do spring to mind. But so many great writers, actors and crew labored beyond the beyond to make this show happen that it extended, as true art does, beyond my reach. This show ran me, not the other way around. It told me what to say, what to show, when to give comfort and when to draw blood. This show, seven years of it, is a living thing. Put it on your shelf, and got to bed. it will whisper to you in your sleep.

Joss Whedon

3 October 2005: Serenity - Joss Post on Opening Weekend

Serenity

Serenity opening weekend has been and gone (for the US, Canada and Australia), but next weekend is just as important. Here's what Joss Whedon posted right before the weekend:

Well boys and girls and boys dressed as girls and girls dressed as Kaylee, the time is almost upon us. This Friday we take that old rust-bucket out of the shipyard and see if she can breach atmo. It's been a long (to paraphrase a band a like) strange trip, and it'll be nice finally to show everbody what it is we've been tinkering with all this time. You already know you have my thanks, from the hardcore fans to the softcore... fans... let me try that again. From the people manning the booths, buying DVD sets for their friends, getting banners seen everywhere on Australian TV, raffling artwork for ticket holders (Adam Hughes, take a bow), to the most casual fan who just wants to see the flick and won't ever read this. You guys are the fuel in the negine, the Fire in the Fly, the weird green stuff coming out of Serenity's butt. (Hmmm. Forget that last one. I'm a little bit out of control here.)

Everyone needs something to keep them going. Mal has his ship, Zoe has her integrity. Jayne as Vera. And I've got you guys.

So what now? There have been so many posts about seeing it, seeing it again, the first weekend, the second weekend, being enthusiastic without being obnoxious (and yes, it IS hard to see over the pom-pom of a Jayne hat), buying tickets in advance, making a noise... I honestly wouldn't know what to add. I can tell you this: the movie will play in about 2200 theaters, which is a good number. Too many, and you get empty theaters with no energy - not enough, and you get, well, not enough. It may be hard to find in some areas but it'll be out there. Leave no mutiplex unturned! This is going to be a ground war, peeps - we have to hold the valley for a long while. However it opens, it needs to HOLD. Instead of the Alliance we'll be fighting viewer apathy, fear of something new, the urge to wait for DVD, and Jessica Alba in a bikini. (Although I have it on good authority that she spends 90% of the film in a huge wooly parka. Make sure that gets out.)

The day this puppy opens, I'll be seeing it with my family (don't worry, there's a lot of them, and they're all paying) and then I'm off to Europe to learn the word 'Browncoats' in nine different languages - 'cause like I said, it's all about holding. I'll never be far from a computer, though, so I can check in with y'all. Thanks for every damn thing.

And remember, amidst all the urgency to make this an event, all the work and the worry, to take two hours and just enjoy yourself. That is, after all, what all this fighting's about.

And here's what he said after the weekend:

Post subject: Worst. Movie. Ever.

was probably "Summer Holiday" with Mickey Rooney. Can you believe that kid was the biggest star in the world? Funny world.

Meanwhile, I'm just rounding out the weekend with a little praise for my dear peeps. Considering everything we've had to overcome, this is an extraordinary achievement, And you guys have been in the front lines. I lurk, I know all. So thanks. Some of you might know that this flick means more than a little to me.

Yes, the second weekend will tell all, as we've always known. I'm not here to push you guys - you push yourselves way harder than I could anyway. I'm just trying to fighure out how to get the message out to the guys that aren't you, that don't know any of you, and that don't run into someone who saw the film. I'll be hounding the extremely patient Uni execs on that very subject. Like the lady saud, "People have to know".

It's not that there HAS to be a sequel. It's just that I've got so many IDEAS...

Keep going to see that movie folks. And for those of you, like me, who are in the UK, the fun starts on Thursday.

30 September 2005: Serenity - Australian Box Office Figures

Serenity

The Australian Offical Serenity Site have confirmed the Box Office Figures for Opening Night are as follows:

Box Office took $280,763
Serenity placed 5th on the national box office chart for that day behind all the school holiday features. It being school holidays in Australia this is to be expected. However, it was the highest place of all non family films and of all the films that opened that night. Also, out of all the films in the top 20, Serenity had the highest per screen average.

Serenity opens tonight in the USA & Canada and I know I can't wait to see what happens there.

25 September 2005: Goners - New Movie

Not content with having Wonder Woman and a Spike movie on his hands, Joss Whedon has been given the green light by Universal to write and direct a new film, Goners, based on a spec script he has written. He has apparently been given a 7 figure budget for the fantasy thriller he has described as "the story of a young woman's journey that involves a great deal of horror and some heroics." Joss went on to say, "It's certainly darker than 'Serenity', and there are a lot of left turns along the way. It is something I had in mind for a while, and it just poured out of me when I finished my film."

20 September 2005: Firefly - Save the Ariel Ambulance

Firefly

Remember the ambulance built from scrap in the Firefly episode Ariel? Well, as some of you may already know, the prop was located in a scrap yard in the Mojave Desert. Ever since it's find, Browncoats Akin and Adam have been hard at work to locate the owners of the yard. They have been succesful and have obtained a price for the ambulance. All they need to do now is raise the money required to buy and transport the ambulance ($4,000.00) and find a home for it. In order to do this a yahoo group has been set up at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ArielAmbulance/. The aim is to place the ambulance in a musem where it could be shared with Browncoats everywhere. Should anything go wrong and they are unable to obtain the ambulance any money raised will got to Joss Whedon's charity of choice, Equality Now. Join up now and help save a piece of TV history in whatever way you can.

9 September 2005: Serenity - Free Screening of 'Mystery Film'

Serenity

Empire Online are offering a free screening of a 'Mystery Film' in 20 cities across the UK. From the description of the film it sounds very likely that this could be Serenity, although, of course, we can't be certain. Here's how to get a ticket:

We can't tell you what this month's reader screening is. UIP, who have kindly agreed to give us one of their top films, have done so on the condition that we don't let you know what it is. All we can say is that it's fab, and that you're going to want to mosey on down to your nearest Vue cinema as soon as possible, clutching the attached voucher in your hands and exchange it for a shiny new pair of tickets to the mystery film - and we're not telling you what it is, no matter how hard you beg!

Now thanks to our friends at UIP, Universal Pictures and Vue Cinemas, you can see it first - and for free!

How To Get Your Tickets - You can see this surprise film (cert.15) first, some time before it opens, and for free, on September 19, at the Vue Cinemas listed below at 6 for 6.30pm. Tickets can be collected at participating Vue cinemas from Monday September 12. As ever, demand for tickets is likely to be high, so do get there early. Please remember that the attached voucher is NOT a ticket, and must be exchanged for tickets at the cinema.

Participating Vue Cinemas: Acton, Belfast, Birmingham, Cambridge, Cheshire Oaks, Croydon Grants, Edinburgh Ocean, Fulham, Portsmouth, Reading, Red Cinema, Shepherds Bush, Staines, Watford, York, Islington, North Finchley, Harrow.

7 September 2005: Serenity - Win Tickets with Chud.com

Serenity

Chud.com are offering the chance to win tickets to see Serenity in Atlanta, Charlotte, Memphis, Greenville and Nashville, USA. Here's what do do:

"Grab an envelope and address it to yourself. Put a fresh stamp on it. FOLD IT (moisture in the delivery has pre-sealed many of the unfolded SAEs) and pop it into an envelope address to CHUD.com at 4915 Camberbridge DR., Alpharetta, GA 30022. Stamp it. Then do this important thing:

Write the city you are seeing it and draw a picture of a spaceship.

Then mail that sucker and if you get it here in time and good things happen (they usually do) , a pass for two will hurl itself back through the mail to your home. A few tips, as we've had about 10 of these get wasted during the process.

Don't forget to put a stamped addressed envelope inside. A lot of people put a piece of paper with their address and expect me to to the rest. Some seal the internal envelope. Others forget a stamp. Many disregard my request to list your city and the wrong passes are sent.

Lastly and most importantly...

If you get a pass and go to the theater, be loud. Be positive. Be energetic. And if you like the movie, spread the word. Serenity needs your help.

17 August 2005: Serenity - Joss Whedon To Visit Australia

Serenity

Joss Whedon posted at the Official Serenity movie site yesterday and confirmed, among other things, his love for Carmon on Ice and his forthcoming visit to Australia. Here's what he said:

Jossimablogification

Just dropping by to say 'hey', maybe thow out a few behind-the-scenes tidbits to make you feel all special and tingly. Okay I can't sleep. But I still might have a tidbit, we'll see.

The marketing blitz is poised to begin. Hopefully it will be a blitz and not a tiny police action. Marketing is a very tricky business, as I've learned. Coming up with a tagline, "The Future is Worth Fighting For", was not a simple process. A couple of close contenders:

"The Future is worth Running Away From."

"The Future is All Visual and S---."

"One Captain. One Psychic. One Assasin. One Doctor. One Shepherd. Another Assasin, but different from the first. One Mechanic. One Companion, which is like a geisha or a courtesan, I guess sort of. One...um... did I do Mechanic? Which movie is this?"

"Mal Takes His Shirt Off Already."

"Serenity. It's like art, but in movie form."

"Get Ready For Rush Hour."

Now, clearl all good notions, but each lacking that one crucial element. I think we went the right way.

Gettin' ready for my trip to Edinburgh. Just one burning question: Si Sergeant's "Lady Agnew of Lochnaw" still hanging in the National Gallery? I'm excited about the film and all, but... if anyone in Scottishville can get the 411 (that's American slan for "four one one"), I'd be grateful. I loves me some Lady Agnew.

Oh, and come early September, I'll be making another short jaunt - and finally get to hang with my Aussie peeps! I'm hitting Sydney and Melbourne! Not for more than a day each, but it's still my first time and I'm pysched! (See, I told you ther'd be some info if you hung around long enough.) I expect a proper Australian welcome, unless a proper Australian welcome involves paddling of any kind.

Well, back to attempt sleep. Keep fighting, and ignore Movieline and the Hollywwod Stock Exchange. We make our destiny, peeps, you all know that better than anyone.

Yours (finally!) sleepily, The Man They Call Joss.

And, to be perhaps a little too honest even for you my dear peeps... I kind of did love 'Carmen on Ice.' Go figure.

12 August 2005: Veronica Mars - Joss Post

Joss Whedon just loves Veronica Mars - so much so he couldn't help posting on Whedonesque about it.

Joss Luvs Veronica

This is my attempt at posting my own thread. My peeps and I just finished a crazed Veronica Marsathon, and I can no longer restrain myself. Best. Show. Ever. Seriously, I've never gotten more wrapped up in a show I wasn't making, and maybe even more than those. Crazy crisp dialogue. Incredibly tight plotting. Big emotion, I mean BIG, and charismatic actors and I was just DYING from the mystery and the relationships and PAIN, this show knows from pain and no, I don't care, laugh all you want, I had to share this. These guys know what they're doing on a level that intimidates me. It's the Harry Potter of shows. There I said it. People should do whatever they can to check out this first season so the second won't be a spoiler fest. I'm nutty.

I'm a little calmer now. Oh God, no I'm not! Wait. Okay. Some of you may already be all up on this, and some may disagree, but I'm urging peeps to check it out, 'cause there is great TV afoot, and who doesn't want that? Thank you for your time.

Still not calm! Wait... wait...

8 August 2005: Serenity - Do You Want a Serenity Mobile Phone Game?

Serenity

Indiagames, producers of the Official Serenity Game have run into a spot of bother when trying to get it released. One of their members has posted on the Offical Movie Posting Board.

Fellow Browncoats

I NEED YOUR HELP

We are www.indiagames.com producers of the Official SERENITY mobile videogame

We have a problem: We cannot get Verizon Wireless to launch the game in September. In fact, they have refused the game. They say they have too many similar titles

I want to show them desire for the game from many Browncoat members. Please email me your desire to experience SERENITY on your mobile phone and I will forward to Verizon Wireless.

I will send a short video file of the game to anyone who emails me.

Thank you.

Sean Malatesta

5 August 2005: Serenity - Australian Screenings

Serenity

Well the Australian pre-screenings have been going down a storm - here's Joss Whedon's welcome message:

"Hi. This is Joss Whedon. If you're sitting here, you're about to watch my first ever movie, Serenity... unless you're facing the other way, in which case I'm not sure why you're here but you might need to talk to somebody, maybe a professional. But if you're one of the people actually facing the screening, then let me just say welcome. I created a world -- well, I had a lot of help, but this is MY letter so I'm taking the credit -- and you're about to enter it. I hope you like living there as much as I have. Serenity is a very personal work with political resonance and a heartfelt message about the human condition and stuff blowing up. 'Cause let's face it, nobody cares about that 'human condition' stuff... in fact if you notice it, try to keep it to yourself. Just tell people about the stuff blowing up, so they'll see the movie too. Thanks!

The fact is, I'm very proud of this movie and everyone in it. I'm excited to show you what we've done. And the best was I can do that is to shut up already. Enjoy.

Joss Whedon."
